Capitol Hill Days! ~Any interest in attending?

This year's ONS Congress in DC included several advocacy sessions, a full day of education and training, time on Capitol Hill in congressional meetings, and a reception honoring nurses and legislators. We packed a whole lot into a few days!

Building on this great momentum, ONS is holding our 3rd annual Capitol Hill Days. The meeting continues to be a great success, but only because of our members. This two-day education and advocacy conference has become a must-attend event for any oncology nurse interested in health policy.

Once again, we are asking our chapters to nominate one member who will join hundreds of other ONS members in being a leader in the policy arena and we welcome you to also make a nomination of an oncology nurse to join them. It is our hope that each chapter will send an oncology nurse to DC to help ONS make a real difference in healthcare!

Beginning Tuesday, September 4, and culminating Thursday, September 6, 100 ONS members will learn about the issues and carry the message to their elected officials.

We are still finalizing the schedule, but highlights include:

· Tuesday: Evening opening reception

· Wednesday: Advocacy education and training

· Thursday: Congressional meetings on Capitol Hill

Nurses will be briefed by policy experts, government officials, nurse leaders, and the ONS advocacy and health policy team on the current political environment and topics such as palliative care, oral drug parity, and care planning. Additionally, we will hear from "inside-the-beltway" pundits who will provide insight on issues like access to opioids, drug cost legislation, Medicare reform, tobacco cessation, workforce safety, and federal funding for research.

To nominate an oncology nurse, applicants should send:

· A letter of interest stating previous advocacy experience

· A current curricula vitae and/or resume

· A letter of support from the chapter

As in previous years, the chapter covers the costs of transportation. ONS National will pay for the hotel and food while in Washington, DC. We are looking for both returning and new members who want to help ONS educate decision-makers on the role of the oncology nurse in healthcare.

ONS is very excited about the opportunity to lead another delegation of oncology nurses in meeting with their federal representatives. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions at astone@ons.org.

To nominate an oncology nurse please visit our nominations page.

The Boston Chapter would be happy to support you! Please write to bonspresident@gmail.com with your intent to apply and Debbie will write your nomination letter!

We look forward to hearing from you!
